The Alka-Terranean® method, explained.

For years I chased a diet that would finally fit my life. Every one of them was built on restriction, and every one of them eventually failed me. The method I teach today came out of that failure — and out of the chemistry I went looking for once I stopped trying to punish my body and started trying to understand it. I call it the Alka-Terranean® method, and it has now guided more than 10,000 people to results they were told were impossible: fast, and lasting.

What the method actually is

The Alka-Terranean method combines the biochemistry of alkaline nutrition with the pleasure and longevity of Mediterranean living. Alkaline eating is what makes fat loss fast. The Mediterranean lifestyle is what makes it sustainable. On their own, each is incomplete. Together, they let you lose weight quickly without ever feeling like you're on a diet.

Strictly alkaline diets work, but almost no one can live on them — too many foods are off-limits, and the effort is relentless. A Mediterranean approach, by contrast, is rich in plants but still welcomes eggs, fish, poultry, good grains, olive oil, and the occasional glass of wine. It's flexible, social, and one of the most researched eating patterns for a long, healthy life. My method takes the alkaline science and makes it livable inside a Mediterranean rhythm.

The science, simply: pH, acid, and alkaline

"Alkaline" just means base — the opposite of acid. Everything sits on the pH scale: 7 is neutral, lower is acidic, higher is alkaline. Acids and bases neutralise each other, which is the whole point of what follows.

Your blood is kept in a narrow, slightly alkaline range of 7.35–7.45, and it cannot leave it — staying there is non-negotiable for your metabolism to function. So your body works constantly to protect that balance. The problem is that most of a modern Western diet produces acid when digested. To clear that acid, your body reaches for its alkaline reserves — minerals like calcium, stored in your bones, and magnesium, stored in your muscles. Borrow from those reserves long enough and you start to see the cost: bone loss, muscle loss, and tissues left acidified and inflamed.

Eating more alkaline foods isn't about changing your blood's pH — your body guards that fiercely. It's about giving your body the minerals it needs from your plate, so it stops raiding its own reserves. That's how alkaline nutrition protects long-term health alongside your weight.

Why this makes fat loss faster

This next part changed everything for me. When you eat more than your body needs, it converts the excess into triglycerides — the form fat is stored in. A triglyceride is three molecules of fatty acid plus one of glycerol. In other words, your body takes acid and stores it away as fat. So one of the easiest ways for an acid-loaded body to manage that acid is simply to keep storing it.

Burning fat runs the reaction in reverse — and releases acid in the process. In an already acidic body, that's the last thing it wants to do, so it holds on. But in an alkaline environment, there are enough minerals on hand to buffer that acid, and the body lets go of stored fat far more readily. That's why eating alkaline supports fast weight loss that comes mainly from fat.

"Most women aren't missing discipline. They're missing the biochemistry of what's actually happening in their body."

Why Mediterranean living makes it last

I grew up on the Aegean coast of Turkey, and I was living the Mediterranean lifestyle long before I had a name for it — real food, no calorie counting, no banned food groups, meals shared slowly with people I love. When I needed the alkaline science to become something I could actually sustain, I went back to that.

The Mediterranean table gives you flexibility and flavour: herbs and spices rich in antioxidants, moderate dairy and meat, food you genuinely enjoy. Just as importantly, it changes how you eat. Fad diets make you dread mealtimes; the Mediterranean way turns them into something to look forward to. Eating mindfully and socially is shown to lower stress, improve digestion, and help you absorb more of what you eat. That's a large part of why the weight stays off.

What I'll never ask you to do

There is no calorie counting in my method, and no rigid plan dictating exactly how much to eat or when. Your needs change day to day — some days you're hungrier than others, and you should eat accordingly. The goal is to teach your body's language so you eat to satisfy hunger, not to hit a number on an app.

And no food group is off-limits. Cutting things out neglects nutrients and breeds cravings. Carbohydrates — especially complex ones — stay in. Chocolate, sweets, and a glass of wine aren't banned; you simply learn to balance them. Had a richer dinner? Good. Tomorrow we add more vegetables, more alkaline minerals, more water. It becomes educational, never punishing — an addition mentality instead of a list of fears.

The method in five lines

  • Alkaline science + Mediterranean living — speed from one, sustainability from the other.
  • Eating alkaline helps your body release stored fat instead of holding onto it.
  • It protects your bones, muscles, skin, and energy — not just your weight.
  • No calorie counting, no rigid meal times, no banned food groups.
  • You learn to balance and compensate, so results last for life.
